CHRIST CENTERED WORSHIP

Son Mountain Fellowship

WHAT IS CHURCH?

First of all, church is not a building of brick and mortar that is put together by man. The church is made of up every individual believers, the church is the people. Each and every person God created uniquely, it takes each person with their God given gifts and talents to make up the church. The church works best when individuals work together for God's glory. The church isn't any one particular denomination, independent community of believers, it is all Bible teaching places of worship and denominations who believe Jesus came, taught us how to live, modeled how to live, then was crucified, dead and buried, the third day rose from the dead. He alone being the perfect sacrifice for our sins, being born again, not because of anything we do, but what he did for us on the cross. Jesus teaches us whatever we do, do it as though we are doing it directly for Him.

Jesus says any time two or three are gathered in His name, church is happening. Church can happen any day of the week, any time of the day, wherever we gather together in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Come and worship with us!

Sunday worship is about just that, WORSHIP.  The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines worship as; the act of showing respect and love for a god especially by praying with other people who believe in the same God; the act of worshipping God or a god. In the case of Son Mountain Fellowship, it is God Almighty who created the heavens and the earth and everything in them, including you and me. We worship God through prayer, singing, praising, lifting Him above all else. More information can be found in Information About the Worship Service.

Why do we meet on Sunday, the first day of the week?

God created the heavens and the earth and everything that is on the earth in six days. The seventh day God rested. The Ten Commandments God gave to Moses the fourth commandment is found in Exodus 20:8-11 (NIV)-   8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

On our calendars you will see the seventh day of the week is Saturday. God says six days you will work, but the seventh day you are to keep Holy. Jesus was resurrected on the first day of the week. The first couple of times He appeared to His disciples was on the day of the week. Jesus rose from the dead which was on the first day of the week, which is Sunday on our calendars. This is when the disciples began meeting on the first day of the week and that is why we meet of the first day of the week being Sunday. The command God gave Moses doesn't state that it must be the seventh day of the week, the commandment simply states you shall work six days and the seventh you are to keep Holy.

                                                                                       Why we worship.

We meet on Sundays to worship our God and Creator. Worship is about our love for the Father, praise, excitement, thankful attitude knowing Him on a personal level. It doesn't matter the kind of week we had. Whether it was the worst week ever, one that nothing we did seemed to go the way we expected, or even if it was the greatest week ever. It is about having a thankful heart for Him holding us by the hand and bring us through it. Praise Him!!! He wants a relationship with you because He created you so He could love you and you love Him.

God created each of us as individuals, no two exactly alike, but exactly how He wanted you. We all worship in different ways and that's okay. How you worship is perfect in His eyes, and how the person worships next to you is perfect in His eyes as well. During worship focus your full attention on Jesus. Hebrews12:2 (NIV) says:  "fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Worship isn't about me or you, worship is about Him! Remember, when you to come to worship, your whole perspective of the world around you will change. For some it is over night, but for the majority it is a process, and for all it is a life long process. Jesus living in us through the Holy Spirit makes us perfect, not one of us can be a child of God by what we do. Each of us are saved by faith in Jesus, Jesus says: whoever believes in me will be saved. (John 11:25-26 (NIV); ““I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”)
